I know, I know. It's way too early to say anyone has a better chance to win the 2017 MLS Cup. The season is only in its preseason stages. But predicting is fun, so why not?
Every new season for MLS is a possibility for previously bad teams to rise to top and snag the coveted MLS Cup.
Could it be the defending champion Seattle Sounders? Maybe we could possibly see a brand-new team surprise the world of MLS and nab the title.
Here are the top five teams we think could win the 2017 MLS Cup.
Seattle Sounders
Obviously, the Sounders have to be considered one of the favorites for the cup, as they return two of the most dangerous attackers in MLS: Jordan Morris and Nicolas Lodeiro. Also, Clint Dempsey is finally healthy, which will make Seattle's attack that much scarier.
Toronto FC
The top Canadian team in the 2016 regular season will look to start right where they left off, before they lost to the Sounders in penalty kicks in the 2016 MLS Cup final. Toronto looks to be just as dangerous as they were before, as the players who advanced them to the final are still with the team.
One of the main players who Toronto will be relying on this upcoming season is Sebastian Giovinco. Last season Giovinco led the team with 17 goals and 15 assists.
LA Galaxy
This really should not be much of a surprise, as the Galaxy are historically one of the most successful teams in the league.
However, the Galaxy did take some hits during the offseason. Steven Gerrard (3 goals, 11 assists), Robbie Keane (10 goals, 2 assists) and Mike Magee (6 goals, 4 assists) have all left the team. To fill the holes, the Galaxy brought in Joao Pedro, a 23-year-old midfielder from Vitoria Guimareas. The Galaxy also signed USA international Jermaine Jones.
Right off the bat, the Galaxy will have an interesting test as they will play three playoff teams in their first five games of the new season. The Galaxy may take a little bit of time to develop chemistry, but never overlook this team.
Colorado Rapids
Last season the Rapids had an offense that could strike at any opportune moment, but now they have added more depth to make the offense potentially lethal. They added Bismark Adjei-Boateng, a young midfielder known for his explosive first touch. They also added Alan Gordan, who will provide the Rapids with strength inside of the box to close out games.
FC Dallas
Last but certainly not least is the team with the best record Western Conference at the end of the 2016 MLS regular season. FC Dallas has been one of the best teams in MLS for the past three seasons. Their homegrown core and robust academy means Dallas will be good for years to come.
