For the first time in his career, it appears Thomas Muller is off of his game. The Bayern attacker has only been able to contribute one goal in 16 Bundesliga appearances for the team. Muller has contributed at least 13 goals in each of his past four Bundesliga seasons (with 20 last year), and has been praised as an vital piece for Bayern.
The only time Müller found the back of the net this season was against Wolfsburg on December 10. He also got an assist in that game.
To make matters worse for Muller, he has been an unused substitute in two of Bayern's past five games. The first one came in a December 21, 2016 game against RB Leipzig, in which Bayern would cruise to a 3-0 victory. The second was last Tuesday when Bayern took on Wolfsburg in the German Cup, which Bayern won 1-0.
It is unusual for a superstar like Muller to struggle so much. Who knows what's causing his game to be off? Of course, at this time we can only hypothesize as to the issue.
The main thing Muller has to do is relax. It can be frustrating and discouraging to not be on the pitch during key games, but he knows he's a world class player. If he just takes his opportunities as they come to him, he'll be fine.
It may take a little bit of time, but he will get back to his regular goal scoring form, which will put him back on the pedestal for the team, and will also help Bayern continue with their dominance of the Bundesliga.
