What’s in a name?
For Nigerian-born striker Isaac Success, everything. But while the Granada CF star’s name – and personal style – are attracting attention, it is his play that has opened eyes and provided potential for a promising future.
Born in Benin City, Nigeria, the 20-year-old Success started his playing career with his hometown BJ Foundation Academy, but he was signed as a 17-year-old by Italian side Udinese for €400,000 ($450,000) in 2013.
However, work permit issues prevented him from joining the Serie A club.
In 2014, he signed with Spanish minnows Granada CF, and he’s hit the ground running, scoring five goals in 40 appearances.
He has also featured for the Nigerian national team — the Super Eagles — at the U17 and U20 levels, scoring nine goals in 11 total appearances.
Now recent media reports have linked Success with a summer move to the English Premier League, with Watford among the suitors.
Will Success succeed at the highest levels of world football? Given his name, he’s off to a promising start.
