It couldn't get better than this, América fans.
Club América is reportedly planning to stage a highly anticipated friendly against Real Madrid at the newly renovated Estadio Azteca in October 2025, according to ESPN. The match, scheduled to coincide with the club’s 109th anniversary on October 12, would see Mexican fans’ return to the stadium for the first time in over 18 months since winning their 15th league title in May, 2024.

The club, if not able to book the current UEFA Champions League winners, would attempt to bring an opponent of the same or similar European stature.
This wouldn’t be the first time Las Águilas have faced a top-tier men's Spanish club on their home turf. Back in 2003, FC Barcelona accepted an invitation to play in the match celebrating América’s 86th anniversary, with Ronaldinho, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Mexico’s very own Rafael Márquez making the trip. The game ended with an impressive 2-0 victory for the Mexican giants.
It wouldn't be hard to imagine seeing Real Madrid or Barcelona play in the Coloso de Santa Úrsula almost 23 years later, as Club América Femenil (the club's women's team) would host both Real Madrid Femenil and FC Barcelona Femení in a pair of friendlies in Fall 2023.

The timing of the friendly against Real Madrid in 2025, however, would fall during a FIFA international break, meaning most of both clubs' star players would become unavailable as they compete with their respective national teams in World Cup qualifiers.
The revamped Estadio Azteca will be in the global spotlight again in 2026, as it hosts the opening game of the FIFA World Cup for a record third time on June 11, 2026.
