A Watford women’s referee stunned fans on Sunday with some of the worst decisions we’ve ever seen. Watford had two players sent off for hardly doing anything while the opposing side, Lewes LFC committed a red card offense but escaped with a yellow.
The incidents took place during a FA Women’s Premier Division game in the third tier.
Watford women’s referee makes shocking decisions
Red card No. 1 came in the first half when Watford midfielder Dre Georgiou cleared the ball out of play due to a teammate down with a head injury. If you turn up the volume all the way you can hear Georgiou call the referee something.
We’ll leave it up to your imagination. The referee’s skin must be made from 1-layer toilet paper as he went straight to his back pocket to the disbelief of everyone.
The nonsense from the man in the middle didn’t end there as he had another baffling call early in the second half.
Watford were about to score a go-ahead goal after their striker had rounded the goalkeeper. The keeper then left out a leg to trip up the striker and deny the clear goal-scoring opportunity.
The referee decided that was only worthy of a yellow card.
We have no idea what this referee was thinking, but his grand finale of horrendous decisions came in the 60th minute.
Watford’s Annie Rossiter was having a difficult time taking a corner as the field was partially flooded and the corner flag was blocking the dry area to take the set piece. Rossiter cleverly removed the corner flag, however this greatly displeased the official.
An exchange of words took place, and his feelings must’ve gotten hurt again as he sent Rossiter off moments later.
Ladies and gentlemen, what you’ve just witnessed is one of the pettiest power trips from an official. Absolutely ridiculous.
We at The18 tend to take the side of the referees as it's a difficult and unforgiving job, but what happened on Sunday to Watford is inexcusable from the referee.
Watford would lose the game 3-2.
