Brazil Pushes France To The Brink, But Marta And Co. Sent Packing In Extra Time

France survived an almighty scare from Brazil to win 2-1 after extra time and advance to the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup, where they’ll play the winner of tomorrow’s match between the USWNT and Spain. The goalscoring hero was Amandine Henry, who got on the end of a set piece in the 106th minute to send France through.

Cameroon Blasts Refs After Loss, England Blasts Cameroon’s Antics On The Pitch

England’s 3-0 defeat of Cameroon in the Women’s World Cup Round of 16 today will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons. The match threatened to descend into chaos on a number of occasions, and it left the players and managers of both nations fuming, albeit for very different reasons.

England Opens The Scoring Against Cameroon With The Greatest Play In Sports — The Indirect Free Kick In The Box

The opening goal from today’s Women’s World Cup Round of 16 match between England and Cameroon was an epic tale involving back passes, indirect free kicks and saliva. Yeah, that kind of goal.

The story begins in the 12th minute, when Cameroon’s Augustine Ejangue cushioned a cross straight towards her own goalkeeper. Instead of clearing it, Annette Ngo Ndom picked it up, putting Cameroon in violation of the back-pass rule.

Carli Lloyd May Have Future As NFL Wide Receiver After Ridiculous Catch

Should the U.S. women’s national team make it to the final, it will play seven matches in just under a month. But what do USWNT players do on their days off?

Apparently, they play football from hotel balconies.

Carli Lloyd posted a video to Instagram on Thursday of her making an incredible catch on a football thrown to her from what appears to be at least three stories up and about 40 yards away. Just watch:

NBCSN To Give Viewers Another Option For USWNT Match Against Spain

For all the crap we put up during the 2018 World Cup from FOX, the U.S. broadcaster is doing better this time around for the 2019 Women’s World Cup. FOX seems to give a damn now that the U.S. is involved, and the broadcasts have improved because of it.

But there remains a group that would rather not listen to JP Dellacamera describe every single second of action when the USWNT plays.

For those viewers, another option has cropped up for how to watch USWNT vs Spain on Monday.

Report: USWNT, U.S. Soccer Agree To Mediation For Gender Discrimination Lawsuit

The USWNT discrimination suit may be decided by mediation after the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

The U.S. women’s national team players sued U.S. Soccer in March as part of a long-running fight for equal pay. The women must play and win more games than the men’s national team but still get paid less.

Christen Press Should Replace Struggling Rapinoe In USWNT Starting XI Against Spain

The U.S. women’s national team cruised through the group stage of the Women’s World Cup, overpowering its three opponents by the tune of 18 goals for and zero against. It was the most dominating group-stage performance in the history of the tournament.

Now it gets trickier, starting with a round-of-16 matchup against Group B runner-up Spain on Monday.

Samantha Bee Joins Equal Pay Debate For USWNT, Compares It To Grey’s Anatomy

Samantha Bee is the latest late-night TV host to join the debate on equal pay for men’s and women’s soccer players.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, the eponymous host used her final segment (above) to make a quick argument that the USWNT should be paid equal to or better than the USMNT, which currently is not the case.

Rose Lavelle Might Be The USWNT’s Most Important Player After Sweden Display

Three years ago, the USWNT suffered its worst defeat ever. OK, it wasn’t USMNT vs. Trinidad and Tobago bad, but it was, by the high standards of the American women, a major disappointment when Sweden knocked the U.S. out of the 2016 Olympic quarterfinals.

Tobin Heath Brings Nutmegs And Magical Solo Goals To The U.S. Party

The USWNT defeated Sweden 2-0 in Le Havre on Thursday to clinch top spot in Group F and confirm next Monday’s Round of 16 meeting with Spain, exorcising some three-year-old demons in the process.

Key to casting out the lasting visages of that Olympic smash and grab was Tobin Heath, who ensured an American victory in the 50th minute after squaring up her defender, tip tapping her way forward like Yoda approaching Count Dooku before whirring into action and working a yard of space to hit one.
