France coach Didier Deschamps has praised Olivier Giroud's mental toughness and high standards of professionalism as he confirmed the striker will start in Wednesday's friendly against Ukraine to claim his 100th cap for the national team.

Giroud will become the eighth player to join France's exclusive club of centurions alongside Lilian Thuram, Thierry Henry, Marcel Desailly, Hugo Lloris, Zinedine Zidane, Patrick Vieira and Les Bleus boss Deschamps.

Richie Laryea and Sophie Schmidt made history by becoming the first Canadians ever to simultaneously win MLS and NWSL Player of the Week honors. Laryea was named MLS Player of the Week after he tallied one goal and two assists for Toronto FC. Houston Dash midfielder Schmidt scored, had an assist and played a crucial role in the Dash’s third goal to defeat Orlando Pride, earning herself Budweiser Woman of the Week.

Both of the Canadians showed off their composure and creative abilities, and they are both, without a doubt, representing their nation one accolade at a time. 

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice in the first 11 minutes as Los Angeles FC rolled to a 6-0 win over the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday.

The rout was on early, as Los Angeles (5-5-3, 18 points) built a 4-0 lead in just 14 minutes and then a 5-0 lead through 33 minutes. LAFC set MLS records for the quickest four and five goals in league history.

There’s no global women’s footballer more under appreciated in America than Germany’s Dzsenifer Marozsán. For those whose interest in the game peaks around World Cup time, the stylish No. 10 is pretty much an unknown. 

After winning her first cap in 2010, Marozsán missed the 2011 World Cup with a knee injury. In 2015 she contributed eight goals throughout qualifying but was severely limited during the finals with an ankle injury. When the USWNT met Germany in the semifinals, Marozsán could only enter the match in the 77th minute with Die Nationalelf already trailing 1-0.

Expansion franchise St. Louis City SC announced Thursday that they set MLS records for most season-ticket deposits in the first 15 minutes and over a 24-hour period after beginning to accept deposits on Wednesday.

The team said 30,000 fans put down deposits in the first 15 minutes and 50,000 did overall during the 24-hour period. St. Louis City will begin play in 2023.

Austin FC, which will start play in 2021, set the previous mark of 30,000 deposits over a 24-hour period in 2019.

Kazuyoshi Miura, the 53-year-old forward for J.League side Yokohama FC, began his career 34 years ago and is still going strong, wondering if he "can stay alive" without the sport after retiring.

Not that the man known fondly in Japan as 'King Kazu' is considering retiring anytime soon, despite being 20 years older than most of his team mates.
