Atlanta player scores, removes shirt, remembers he’s already been booked, dies inside

If you ever plan on removing your shirt for a goal, then make sure you're not already on a yellow card folks. Here's a prime example of why.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the 69th minute, Atlanta United 2 (a real original name) had a free kick in a dangerous area against Miami FC (not Inter Miami). Miami then made the bold move of allowing Atlanta’s Jackson Conway to run completely unmarked across the face of goal.

Washington NFL Team Considering Name Change — What Soccer Teams Also Have Racist Names?

The Washington NFL team announced it would undergo a review of the team’s racist name on Friday. Some sources have said it is likely the team will change its name from the racist “Redskins” moniker it has used for decades. This got us thinking, are there racist soccer team names worse than the Washington team’s mascot?

USL Club Announces Plans To Become First Team To Allow Fans Back At Sporting Event In U.S.

Ever since the novel coronavirus pandemic shut down all sports in the U.S., supporters have been wondering: When will fans be allowed at sporting events? We just got the definitive answer for the first match to allow fans back in a stadium to watch a live event this week.

The Real Monarchs of the USL Championship announced Thursday they will host Landon Donovan’s San Diego Loyal SC on July 11 — with Rio Tinto Stadium open for up to 5,300 fans. It will mark the first U.S. sporting event with fans since the Denver Nuggets played the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA on March 11.

Semi-Pro Club’s Answer To Anthem-Protest Debate: Change The Tune

Ever since Colin Kaepernick, Megan Rapinoe and many more athletes chose to kneel for the “Star-Spangled Banner,” sports leagues have struggled with how to balance respecting one’s right to protest with the feelings of fans who believe one’s freedom of speech should be suspended during the national anthem.

Minneapolis City SC Distributes Family Meal Kits To Southside Residents

Like all lower division soccer clubs, the COVID-19 pandemic pushed Minneapolis City SC into dangerously uncharted waters. The club, which was founded in 2016, plays in the fourth tier NPSL. Back in late March, the season was cancelled and the team’s highly anticipated U.S. Open Cup first round match against Chicago FC United was postponed indefinitely.

Holy Shit They Did It Again — Third-Tier USL Side Drops Season’s Best Kit

Last year, Forward Madison FC burst onto the U.S. Soccer scene with some of the freshest kits we’d ever seen.

This year, they’ve done it again.

Forward Madison, which plays in the third-tier USL League One, dropped its alternate “Drip Kit” on Saturday. Once again the club went Full Mingo and we really don’t deserve a shirt this awesome.

U.S. Soccer Shutters Development Academy Due To COVID-19 Fallout

The U.S. Soccer Federation said on Wednesday it was shutting down its youth development academy permanently due to the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

U.S. Soccer, the sport's governing body in the United States, said in a statement the decision to shutter the academy, which it founded in 2007 and included competitions across five age groups, was effective immediately.

Is It “Soccer” Or “Football”? Or Could It Be “Footy Fun Ball”?

Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of my greatest hopes is that the collective joy at the beautiful game’s return forever silences the mind-numbingly pedantic “football vs. soccer” argument.

As an American media company, it’s inevitable that any piece of content we produce that takes off beyond these shores will eventually have the following top comment: “It’s football, not soccer.”

Tim Howard Has Day To Forget On First Game Back From Retirement

The anticipation and excitement surrounding Tim Howard’s return to soccer was met with a four-goal bashing in Memphis on Saturday night.

Earlier in the week, Memphis 901 FC announced that Howard was coming out of retirement and the club’s part-owner would be starting in goal for the team’s home opener. It turned out to be a return to forget as visiting Indy Eleven scorched Memphis, netting four goals past the former USMNT great.
