The Florida Cup is a relatively obscure exhibition held each winter since 2015 in Orlando, Florida. The teams involved aren’t always the best, but they’re recognizable, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Rangers, River Plate, Corinthians and PSV Eindhoven having been involved in recent years.

This year’s Florida Cup features Ajax, Sao Paulo, Eintracht Frankfurt and Flamengo — plus a concert Saturday night from Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo at Orlando City Stadium.

Soccer is no stranger to fuzzy, furry or feathered pitch invaders. From cats and good dogs to sensual grasshoppers and even dead rats (ew).

Most fans take straight to social media following a sporting event. Typically, the athletes will as well. And when angry fans clash with professional athletes, every Twitter user reading the thread heads straight to the microwave to heat up the popcorn.

The 2018-19 season has been packed full of drama, emotions and even comedy. What happens on the pitch is usually in focus — players making tackles, scoring goals, playing beautiful soccer; all of that takes the cake in media attention. But managers get that attention too. After a goal or an important moment in a match, the camera always pans to the manager, showing their jubilation, anger or their stoicness. 

FIFA is a worldwide phenomenon, drawing millions of players each year. Every season, soccer fans wonder what the overall ratings of their favorite players will be, so much so that FIFA annually releases a top 100 overall rating list before the release of the game every September. Kevin Ellison, a Morecambe FC player, is not in the top 100.
