In a strictly sporting sense, the worst part of the pandemic was definitely the postponement of Euro 2020. On the one hand it deprived us of a month-long carnival of joy (the expanded 2016 tourney was thrilling with Wales and Iceland getting out of pocket and Portugal claiming top prize despite winning only one match in regular time), and on the other it reminded us of how dumb it is to host a major international tournament in 12 different countries (Did you ask for this? I didn’t ask for this).

But the countdown is once again on with Euro 2020 Part Deux just 283 days away!

Lyon won its fifth straight Women’s Champions League title (seventh overall) on Sunday. How on earth do you break OL’s hegemony when they’ve so thoroughly dominated Europe? 

Buy all the other best players in the world not on Lyon. At least, that appears to be Chelsea’s plan.

Arsenal have signed Brazilian centre back Gabriel Magalhaes from French side Lille on a long-term contract, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed but British media reported Arsenal paid around 27 million pounds ($36.29 million) for the 22-year-old.

Just a day after announcing club-record signing Rodrigo on a reported $36 million deal from Valencia, Leeds United is looking to make more high-profile signings.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed right back Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a four-year contract, the north London club said on Sunday.

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed but British media reported Spurs paid $20 million to secure the 28-year-old Ireland international.

Leeds United has completed the signing of Spain forward Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia for a club-record fee, the newly promoted Premier League side said on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road after Leeds reached an initial agreement with the Spanish club on Tuesday.

On Friday night, the world was stunned and saddened to learn of the death of Chadwick Boseman, the beloved actor who played everyone from Jackie Robinson to James Brown to Thurgood Marshall. Boseman was perhaps most cherished for his role as T’Challa, otherwise known as the superhero Black Panther. 

Boseman died at 43 following a four-year battle with colon cancer on Friday, shocking a public that had no idea he had been diagnosed with stage three cancer in 2016.

Chelsea has some of the most-talented attackers in England, what with Sam Kerr, Erin Cuthbert, Ji So-Yun and Fran Kirby in the ranks. And yet it was a defender, Millie Bright, who ripped a long-range golazo to break the deadlock on the way to a 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Women's Community Shield on Saturday.
