We have hit another milestone in 2016 as 32-year-old New England Revolution striker Kei Kamara has become the first man, we assume, to receive a yellow card for twerking in the history of association football. This almost goes without saying, but he’s also the first former winner of the MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year award to receive a yellow card for twerking, a distinction that is unlikely to ever be replicated.
For the Revs and Kamara, it was the final nail in a disappointing season. Kamara scored 22 goals for the Columbus Crew last season, but he could only manage 12 this year after being traded from the Crew to the Revs in May.
The Revs also failed to make the playoffs for the first time in four years. The Revs were eliminated on Decision Day, notching a 3-0 victory over Montreal but finishing with a vastly inferior goal difference than Philadelphia, who claimed the final spot.
Kamara scored the third and final goal in the 71st minute and was immediately booked in the aftermath for "delaying the restart of play". We’d have assumed twerking, when done correctly, would qualify as "persistent infringement of the Laws of the Game", but Kamara doesn’t get enough booty pops in.

Red card offence surely?! #GamesGone pic.twitter.com/DY1KmRisiP— Oddschanger (@Oddschanger) October 24, 2016
He reacts with anger to the ref’s decision but not angrily enough to earn a second yellow card for dissent. If anyone wishes to claim the mantle as the first footballer to get sent off for twerking, that’s how you’re going to have to do it.
The smart money's on Diego Costa.
