When we last checked in on our friend River Plate goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero, he had received a pair of shoes from Lionel Messi during the Club World Cup. It was a beautiful story, but things appear to have taken a turn for the worse for Barovero, who conceded a hat trick to Alan Ruiz in the Argentine Premier Division.
One of the goals will trouble poor Barovero for some time, we're guessing.
Alan Ruiz Gets A Hat Trick Oh No Marcelo Barovero Don't Do That
It was just one moment in a 4-1 beatdown, but what a way to give up a goal. That's the sort of thing that keeps, um, keepers awake at night.
Two lessons that should have already been learned by professional soccer players: forwards should always press the keeper, and keepers shouldn't dilly around with the ball.
As far as we know, this is Ruiz's first professional hat trick, and what a way to get it. Poor Marcelo Barovero. At least he still has Lionel Messi's shoes. Now he just needs to get his dignity back.
