Caroline Weir Goes Three-For-Three In Scoring Puskás Nominated Goals When City Hosts United

At this point it's one of the most outrageous traditions in all of sports — Manchester City hosts Manchester United in Women's Super League play and City midfielder Caroline Weir scores a contender for the Puskás Award.

It all began in 2019 when, in the inaugural WSL Manchester derby, Weir lashed a 25-yard rocket into the far corner to the delight of 31,213 at the Etihad.

City's next home match against United was played at Academy Stadium on Feb. 10, 2021. Following a Tobin Heath turnover, Weir delicately chipped England international Mary Earps to put the finishing touch on a 3-0 win.

On Sunday City again welcomed United to Academy Stadium but Weir started on the bench. The Scottish international entered the match in the 75th minute with the score level at 0-0 and hit a sublime winner just six minutes later.

This one is essentially a combination of the previous two. It's from range like the first, but it's an immaculate lob like the second.

City climbs to fifth with the win and is just two points back of fourth-place United. The Red Devils are six points behind first-place Arsenal after the Gunners drew 0-0 with second-place Chelsea on Friday.
