Leicester City's season has been one for the ages. If you were to ask just about anybody before the Premier League season began, not many would have been able to predict this type of run. The team itself came out of nowhere, but even more out of nowhere has been their leading goal scorer, Jamie Vardy.
His story is absolutely incredible if you think about where he was not too long ago, and now he's the leading goal-scorer in the Premier League. That said, Jamie Vardy and Leicester City might not be the only Cinderella story in 2016 in the sports world. One could be emerging in Colorado.
Major League Baseball's season is wrapping up the season first official week and the biggest "Story" in baseball right now is named Trevor, of the Colorado Rockies. The rookie baseball player is on record-breaking pace like the league has never seen, similar to Vardy, who broke the Premier League record for consecutive games with a goal scored.
Trevor Story became just the fifth player in MLB history to homer in each of his team's first four games, and he set the record for most home runs in his first four games of a season with six.
Both stories are fascinating because both players were passed over for years, but when given opportunities they have made the best of them. Vardy, who, at one point in his career, had to work in a carbon fiber factory to make ends meet, is now the leading the league in goals scored.
Trevor Story was a highly touted draftee, but has spent the last five years in the minor leagues scratching and fighting for an opportunity. After a trade last season and an off-the-field issue by the potential starter at his position, he has been handed an opportunity and has so far made the most of it.
The soccer and baseball seasons are both long and it is an absolute testiment to Leicester City that they have been able to continue winning up to this point. Can Trevor Story and the Colorado Rockies be the Leicester City of Major League Baseball? It is still way too early to tell, but everyone loves an underdog story, no pun intended.
