Europe’s favorite Moldovan/Transnistrian soccer club received a brutal reality check in the Champions League on Wednesday in the form of a second straight 3-1 defeat to Inter Milan.
After starting the Champions League group stage with victories against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid, Sheriff has suffered two straight defeats at the hands of Inter Milan.
Inter was pulling out all the stops, including Nicoló Barella throwing himself on the grass to avoid blocking Marcelo Brozovic’s opening goal in the 54th minute.

Barella is a genius, what else is there to say? A lot of players wouldn’t have the awareness to turn themselves into one of Andy’s toys and lie motionless on the ground. This goal took what little wind there was out of the Sheriff sails.
Eleven minutes later Sheriff’s goalkeeper was unlucky after pulling off a miraculous double save, but he couldn’t keep out the third effort.

On paper this game wasn’t supposed to be close, and Inter started making that a reality in the second half.

You know a game isn’t going your way when even Alexis Sánchez is getting on the scoresheet. The Chilean made the score 3-0 with his first Champions League goal in four years.

Discount Adama Traore scored a late consolation goal in stoppage time to make the score 3-1. The goal was far too late for Sheriff.
The defeat saw Sheriff fall to third in Group D, one point behind Inter and three points behind Real Madrid. This also doesn’t bode well for The18’s Group D water balloon prediction.
