Everton travelled to Cyprus to play Apollon Limassol in the last match of the Europa League group stage Thursday. They did so without most of the first team and new manager Sam Allardyce. Neither team had any chance of advancing, so Everton used the opportunity to hand debuts to some academy kids and prepare the first team for Sunday's Merseyside Derby.
And you know what, they won! Everton grabbed their first and only win of the Europa League group stage with some angsty teens, misfiring older central midfielders and fringe coaches. Ademola Lookman scored twice and Nikola Vlasic tacked one on late to put the Cypriots away and avoid finishing last in Group E.
(Warning: these videos are, uh, Europa League quality.)
