Every once in a while a soccer game erupts in a flurry of goals so breathtaking that I want to run across the globe spreading the word of what I just witnessed. It’s as if I feel a need to show the footage of what just happened to every single person who has ever said soccer is boring to watch. I want to thrust it in their faces and dare them to say it again.
The latest example of one such game comes from the Belgian Pro League, which shows that you don’t need to have the best players in the world to create a breathtaking game of soccer.
I am tempted to say that the early red card that Anderlecht received set off the fireworks display you are about to see, but I have a feeling that even if it had not been given we would have seen some golazos. Something was just in the air that night.
Watch as what starts with a nice long shot and a well worked team play goal ends with three of the most audacious strikes I have seen in a while.
Would Anderlecht have lost by 3 goals had they had all 11 men on the field? You know, I’m not sure. Their defense wasn’t exactly organized once they were down to 10 men, and organization is something that any team can have, no matter how many men are on the field.
Either way, what happened happened, and at least 3 competitors for Belgian soccer’s goal of the year came of it.
Thanks for keeping the magic alive, Belgian Pro League.
