Los Dorados de Sinaloa have lost one of their promising youth players this week.
Mirsha Francisco Herrera Gastélum, 20, was killed in a stabbing attack in Culiacan, Mexico, on Tuesday.
He was on his way home after training when he was attacked in an attempted robbery.
Es un momento muy duro para todos en el Club.
Siempre te recordaremos #ConElPezHastaElFinal, querido Mirsha. pic.twitter.com/mla0FNOYl7— #ConElPezHastaElFinal (@Dorados) July 16, 2019
This adds to a troubling last few months for Los Dorados, who also lost their legendary Argentinian head coach Diego Maradona, who has called an end to his coaching career in Mexico.
Gastélum was a left back that had joined the club at 15 and was showing a great deal of promise. The crime is being investigated by the police.
Maradona, who had the chance to coach the youth player, called for justice and peace for Gastelum’s family.
“Today, sadly, I have to say goodbye to Mirsha Francisco Herrera Gastélum, player for the youth side of Dorados.”
The second-division side had Maradona as head coach since 2018 and while they have had a roller coaster ride of a time with the Argentina legend, he will surely be missed.
Maradona left the club due to health concerns and won’t be back to managing any time soon.
