I love terrible free kicks. I cannot help it. In theory, a free kick taken reasonably near the box should be a shot on target every time. In practice, hoo boy it gets interesting.
For example, take a gander at this Germany "effort" against Algeria in the 2014 World Cup. If Germany hadn't gone on to win the tournament, every player involved in this kick would have probably been keelhauled when they got back to Germany.
That was great! Free kicks that are that bad deserve to be celebrated, which is why we're delighted to announce the creation of the The18 Pooskas Award, given to the most comically-taken free kick of the season. We will give the actual award out following the culmination of the 2015-2016 season. Here are the candidates so far, a list we will be adding to.
