There is only one thing worse than getting hit in the face with a ball: being the one that kicked it in the first place. This pinnacle of misfortune was on full display when Jagiellonia Bialystok faced off against Wisla Krakow in the Polish top flight.
In the 44th minute, Karol Mackiewicz of Bialystok found himself hounded into the corner by Lukasz Gargula of Krakow. Desperate to make the most out of the situation, Mackiewicz crossed the ball, probably just hoping for a deflection for a thrown in. He got the deflection, but that’s about all that went right for him.
It really doesn’t get much more embarrassing or unfortunate than that. We should know. We have hit ourselves in the face plenty of times while trying to show off in the middle of a game. Hopefully Mackiewicz won’t be as deterred as we were.
