NWSL Announcers Really Need To Fucking Stop Misgendering Athletes

OL Reign beat the Chicago Red Stars 3-2 in one of the more entertaining NWSL Challenge Cup games of the year on Tuesday night. Tziarra King had an assist and scored the late winner, further cementing her as my second favorite NWSL player (just behind of my fellow Aggie Shea Groom).

But what stood out more than King’s heroics or Mal Pugh’s first goal since 2019 was the continued misgendering of Reign midfielder Quinn by NWSL announcers. It was made all the worse by the announcers making damn sure they used the correct surnames for recently married players.

NWSL Needs To Make Challenge Cup Permanent — With One Major Change

When the world shut down in March 2020 for Covid-19, there was a lot of fear about the future of soccer. How could we play in the midst of a pandemic, one that would kill more than half a million people in the U.S. alone? The NWSL Challenge Cup was the answer, proving you could play sports and keep everyone safe.

Real Madrid Left Chasing Christian Pulisic’s Shadow In Inspirational First-Leg Performance

There was a time when Christian Pulisic’s rumored destination from Borussia Dortmund was Real Madrid. With Gareth Bale fading and Lucas Vázquez not offering as much of a threat, it wasn’t just a fancy of The18 that Pulisic make his way to the Santiago Bernabéu — He Who Must Not Be Named (Florentino Pérez) wanted it.

Christian Pulisic Scores Stunning Solo Goal Against Real Madrid In UCL Semifinals

Early against Real Madrid, Christian Pulisic put the ball on a platter for Timo Werner to score, but his German teammate hit it too close to Thibaut Courtois, whose lanky legs denied Chelsea an early goal. Not long later, Pulisic learned his lesson and opted not to pass, and in doing so put his team in front in the Champions League semifinals on Tuesday in Madrid. The Pulisic goal vs Real Madrid was the opener in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the UCL semifinals.

Can Any MLS Clubs Upset Their Liga MX Opponents In The CCL Quarterfinals?

With five MLS clubs and three Liga MX sides making up the quarterfinals of the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League, the stage is perfectly set to deliver the matchups we all want to see.

While one MLS side is guaranteed passage to the semifinals (Atlanta and Philadelphia do battle in the quarters), we’re eagerly anticipating 2018 CCL finalist Toronto against 2014 CCL winner Cruz Azul, reigning MLS Cup titleholder Columbus taking on 2019 CCL victor Monterrey, and 2020 MLS is Back Tournament champ (the highest accolade around) Portland clashing with 2016 CCL top dog América.

5 Goles En 2 Partidos: Chicharito Hernández Y Su "Tapando Bocas MLS 2021 Tour"

Chicharito anda dulce. Incluido quien escribe.

Ligue 1 Leaders Lille Pick Up A Crucial Victory, But The Title Race Is Still Too Close To Call

Due to Paris St German's dominance of French football over the years, Ligue 1 has become one of the least competitive competitions in Europe. Since the club's Qatari takeover in 2011, PSG has won seven of the last nine Ligue 1 titles — nearly all of them by 10 points or more.

This season though has brought a welcome change to the Ligue 1 landscape. PSG has played slightly below its standards domestically (its eight league losses, including five at home, are the most in a decade), while the competing sides have noticeably improved, making for a scintillating title race.

Restoring Parity: The Current CCL Format Has Been Detrimental To Smaller Clubs, But Change Is Coming

When the topic of the CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) is discussed among American soccer fans, the inevitable focus is on the struggles of MLS sides in the competition.

Since the tournament was expanded and renamed in 2008, a Mexican side has won the title every season. More than half of the CCL finals have been contested between Liga MX teams and only four MLS sides have reached the final in that timespan.

The last American team to lift the trophy was LA Galaxy back in 2000, only the second MLS club to win in the 33 seasons of the competition up to that point.

He Has Arisen: Chicharito Scores First Career Hat Trick Since 2016

Javier "Chicharito" Hernández scored three goals in the opening 60 minutes as the Los Angeles Galaxy earned a 3-2 victory Sunday over the visiting New York Red Bulls to become the only two-win team in MLS two weeks into the season.

It was the second consecutive multi-goal game for Chicharito, who scored just two goals the entire 2020 season for the Galaxy.

Andrew Gutman and Cristian Cásseres Jr. scored goals for the Red Bulls, who are the only Eastern Conference team to lose each of their first two games.

Zack Steffen Keeps Clean Sheet In Manchester City’s Carabao Cup Final Triumph

LONDON - Manchester City claimed a record-equalling fourth successive League Cup triumph as Aymeric Laporte's late header sealed a deserved 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Spurs had soaked up intense City pressure for most of the game to somehow stay in contention at Wembley Stadium. But City finally made the breakthrough in the 82nd minute from an unlikely source as defender Laporte met Kevin de Bruyne's free kick and headed past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
