Spanish police have arrested seven people after racial abuse toward Vinícius Jr.

MADRID — Police detained seven men on Tuesday over separate alleged hate crime incidents against Real Madrid football player Vinicius Jr as Spain's main soccer league urged changes to Spanish law that would enable it to take steps to curb racism in stadiums.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed support for Vinicius Jr, whom he expected would remain at the club.

He lambasted Spain's "obsolete" protocols to deal with racism in the sport, and said he would consider taking his players off the pitch if they were to be abused again during a game.

Not even Thibaut ‘spaghetti limbs’ Courtois could save Real Madrid from unstoppable City

In the battle between Thibaut Courtois and Erling Haaland the Real Madrid keeper came up victorious. Alas he couldn’t keep out the relentless hordes of Manchester City attacks as the defending Premier League champions won 4-0 (5-1 on aggregate) to book their ticket to the UEFA Champions League final on Wednesday.

City deserve all the credit for their victory. They outclassed Real Madrid on every inch of the field. The area of most difficulty was trying to get past Courtois in goal.

Barcelona players and staff sprint to safety after celebrating LaLiga title on rival's pitch

BARCELONA - Barcelona claimed their 27th LaLiga title and first for four years on Sunday after two first-half goals from Robert Lewandowski spurred them to a comfortable 4-2 victory over city rivals Espanyol.

Barça moved to 85 points from 34 matches and extended their lead at the summit to an unassailable 14 points over second-placed Real Madrid.

There was little time for jubilation, however, as the visitors had to quickly rush off the pitch after full-time as several Espanyol fans invaded the field as Barça started to celebrate their title.

Piqué shot down — Shakira's got a new Top Gun (it's Tom Cruise)

The tragic romance of our time took another compelling twist this past weekend as Shakira potentially found her rebound from last year's dramatic split with Gerard Piqué. Throughout Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Shakira was spotted hanging out with Tom Cruise. Gossip rags are now saying the Last Samurai is going to pursue her like a scene out of Mission: Impossible; he's already sent flowers.

FIFA threatens Women’s World Cup broadcast blackout after low-dollar bids from broadcasters

Europe's top soccer nations face a broadcast blackout for this year's Women's World Cup unless media can improve on their "disappointing" offers for the rights, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

Offers from "Big 5" European countries were not acceptable to football's world governing body and a "slap in the face" of the players and "all women worldwide", Infantino said.

The 'Big 5' nations are Britain, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

Real Madrid bounce back from Girona defeat with a Benzema hat trick

MADRID — Karim Benzema scored a first-half hat trick as Real Madrid recovered from a disappointing midweek loss at Girona by beating lowly Almeria 4-2 at home in LaLiga on Saturday.

With six games remaining, second-placed Real maintained their slim title hopes by moving up to 68 points, cutting Barcelona's lead to eight points. Barcelona host sixth-placed Real Betis later on Saturday.

Goalie scores last-gasp goal with his face, gets sent off after ref calls handball

We all have a reason to hate VAR: its stupid nano-sized offside lines, seeing penalties nobody else sees, the time it takes from the game to review plays — you name it. However, there are times when you wish the technology was around.

Or at least you entertain the idea after seeing how unfair life was with Spanish goalkeeper Manu García last weekend.

10 months after ACL tear, Alexia Putellas returns in Barça's biggest match of the season

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes probably had to deliver the most difficult team talk of her career after training on Wednesday. Looking ahead to tomorrow's Champions League semifinal second leg against Barcelona, she had to convince her team to forget about Caroline Graham Hansen's exceptional strike at Stamford Bridge, giving Barça a 1-0 advantage, then she had to prepare her team for the vociferous cauldron of noise they're about to face inside the Camp Nou.

Spanish goalkeeper celebrates team's promotion by kissing his boyfriend

People in Spain are calling it the "promotion kiss."

The image? 28-year-old goalkeeper Alberto Lejárraga celebrating Marbella FC's title and promotion to Segunda RFEF (the Spanish fourth division) by embracing his boyfriend and smacking his lips for a very touching and iconic moment.

Lejárraga was not only happy for his club's success but also for coming out as gay, following in the footsteps of professional players like Australian Josh Cavallo and Czech Jakub Jankto.

Former NYCFC forward Taty Castellanos scores FOUR against Real Madrid

It’s been a day the small mountain town in northern Catalonia will never forget. Girona FC welcomed the mighty Real Madrid to its humble home, the Estadi Montilivi, for a late-season duel. The newly promoted side has attracted attention after several entertaining performances this season, but none will stay as long in the minds and souls of fans as Tuesday's 4-1 battering of the World Champions.
