On Friday, USA TODAY Sports revealed that sporting power couple Julie (USWNT, Chicago Red Stars) and Zach Ertz (Philadelphia Eagles) had pledged to provide 2,500 meals to local food banks for every touchdown scored over the Eagles next three home games at Lincoln Financial Field.

World-Class Crystal Dunn Traded Away For Backup Goalkeeper, Allocation Money

In terms of all-around talent, I’m not sure there’s a better player in the world than Crystal Dunn. A world-class striker, she’s also proven to be a stellar fullback and midfielder — wherever she’s asked to play she’s one of the best at that position.

So it’s stunning to see one of the world’s best footballers traded around the NWSL for what amounts to a pittance compared to the value of this superstar.

The Houston Dash midfielder didn’t go on loan to a well-known club in England like Tobin Heath and Christen Press (Manchester United), Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis (Man City) and Alex Morgan (Tottenham). Instead she found herself a club to get some playing time while the NWSL plays a mostly meaningless Fall Series back home.

Smith debuted for Portland, scored her first professional goal and truly showed why she was the No. 1 draft pick in 2020.
