As part of new FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s mission of “getting football back to the heart of FIFA”, a team of FIFA Legends took on the Mexico All-Stars to celebrate both the 66th FIFA Congress in Mexico City and the 50th anniversary of the historic Azteca Stadium.

Luis Suarez is in the midst of his greatest season as a professional. He’s scored 56 goals in 51 appearances for Barcelona and could end up with the Pichichi, awarded to the top goalscorer of each La Liga season. At only 29 years of age, the Barca striker should be at the top of his game for some time yet.

Pablo Aimar is one of the greatest Argentine players of all time. The two time La Liga winner made his name at Valencia, Benfica, and River Plate with his brilliant dribbling and playmaking ability. Nicknamed El Payaso (the clown) he was idolized by children across Argentina, and one of those kids was Lionel Messi. 

Sweden have revealed their 23-man roster for this summer’s European Championship in France, and it’s clear that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have to be at his very best if the Swedes are to maintain any hope of advancing from a very difficult Group E.

On Monday, May 2, Giovani Dos Santos was named in Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s 40-player preliminary squad. On Sunday, May 8, Dos Santos showed why with a dominant performance in the LA Galaxy’s 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution.

Luis Suarez’s blatant handball from the 2010 World Cup continues to be a subject of debate amongst soccer’s lawmakers. Suarez committed the offense in the closing stages of a quarter-final match against Ghana, giving Uruguay the slightest hopes of staving off elimination.

Asamoah Gyan sent the resulting penalty over the bar for Ghana, and Uruguay went through to the semis after a shoot-out victory. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is now looking into ways to prevent that situation from ever occurring again.
