New York City FC lifted MLS Cup for the first time in the club’s six-year history on Saturday after tying Portland 1-1 and defeating the Timbers 4-2 on penalty kicks. The Timbers were heavy favorites heading into the final, but the traveling NYCFC supporters pulled out their secret weapon: the timbs.

One of the biggest talking points of the game was the horrific blown call in the final seconds during the build-up of Portland’s equalizer. NYCFC was seconds from lifting its first title when Larrys Mabiala clearly fouled Maxime Chanot. Felipe Mora then put home the equalizer.

American defender Chris Richards scored the first Bundesliga goal of his career on Saturday against SC Freiburg in a crucial 2-1 victory. With the score tied at 1-1, Hoffenheim had a corner kick with 15 seconds left in the game. The ball was whipped into the box, and it would be the 21-year-old Alabama native who got his head on the ball.

Carli Lloyd played the last regular season game of her career on Sunday and went out in style with a goal to her name during a 1-1 draw vs. Racing Louisville. Lloyd hasn’t been the most prolific scorer in league play, but she was never going to miss this open header.

Romelu Lukaku’s 69th minute header proved to be the difference in Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League opener against Zenit on Tuesday. The Chelsea vs. Zenit highlights saw the defending champs frustrated by a feisty Russian side for most of the game.

Zenit’s defense dug its heels into the ground and dared the Blues to try and get past. I’m willing to bet that if Chelsea had the same squad as last season, then this match would have ended in a draw. That’s not the case when a player like Lukaku roams in the opposition’s box.
