Sweden Is The Team These Olympics Deserve

We've already covered many of the terrible things that have gone on before and during the Olympics, but here's a refresher: the Zika virus, deadly bacteria in the water, the police and fire departments can't protect anybody, everything is dirty, the diving pool turned green, it's really hot, a camera fell on some people, the Olympic Village is unfit for human habitation and the Sweden Women's National Team is making soccer unwatchable.

Borussia Dortmund Are Frighteningly Good, But Bayern Munich Remain Untouchable In Germany

Carlo Ancelotti has already accomplished something that Pep Guardiola was never able to do at Bayern Munich: win the German Super Cup. Guardiola was unsuccessful in three attempts, but Ancelotti has landed an early trophy in his Bayern reign by defeating their Der Klassiker rival Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

Second half goals from Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller put an emphatic touch on a scoreline that was hardly representative of the game’s competitive nature.

USWNT Barely Survive Late Show From Colombia To Top Group G

The USWNT drew 2-2 against Colombia to top Group G in Manaus on Tuesday. Goals from Crystal Dunn and Mallory Pugh for the U.S. were cancelled out by two free kicks from Maria Catalina Usme, one of which was the result of an error by U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo.

The Midfield Is Changing, But Players In The Mold Of Andrea Pirlo Will Always Dominate

Through the first 30 minutes of the 2016 MLS All-Star Game, there was an interesting contrast between the midfields of Arsenal and the MLS All-Stars. Andrea Pirlo anchored the setup for MLS, in tandem with Kyle Beckerman and Kaka, while Arsenal chose the strength of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny to support Jack Wilshere.

The average age of the duel was 24 for Arsenal and 35 for MLS, but one couldn’t help but be in awe of the play of MLS’s old guard — particularly the sumptuous, metronomic style of Pirlo.

Ecuadorian Minnows Independiente Del Valle Are A Footballing Miracle

The surreal run of Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle almost came to an end in Quito on Wednesday. There’s still another leg to play in Medellin, but a loss at home would’ve almost certainly doomed del Valle. That wasn’t in the cards — the fairy tale added another chapter when Arturo Mina Meza snatched an 87th minute equalizer against Colombia’s Atletico Nacional.

The first leg draw means that del Valle need a win in regular time, extra time or penalties in Colombia to be crowned Copa Libertadores champions.

Shamal George Had The Weirdest Liverpool Debut Ever

Shamal George is 18 years old. He plays in Liverpool's youth academy. He is a goalkeeper. He was put into the squad for Liverpool's friendly against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday to back up Loris Karius after Adam Bogdan got sent on loan to Wigan. He got to make his debut in the second half. At striker.

Germany Are Through To The Semi-Finals After Defeating Italy In Nine Rounds Of Penalties

Jonas Hector scored the decisive penalty in the ninth round of penalty kicks after Leonardo Bonucci had canceled out Mesut Ozil’s strike in regular time to send Germany into the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

Germany altered their lineup to effectively null any Italian attacking strength, and a fascinating tactical battle between two of Europe’s greatest footballing nations struggled to match the pregame hype.

Watch Germany's Two Glorious Goals From Their 3-0 Win Over Slovakia

The world champions have awoken in France, and the rest of the field have been warned. Germany’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over Slovakia in their round of 16 encounter gave evidence to the brilliance, balance and cohesion this German side is able to muster.

Jerome Boateng scored a wonderful opening goal in the eighth minute, Mario gomez added a second in the 43rd and Julian Draxler capped a superb individual performance with Germany’s third in the 63rd minute.

Northern Ireland Survive German Siege To Keep Tournament Hopes Alive, Despite Losing 1-0

Northern Ireland vs. Germany finished 1-0 in favor of Die Mannschaft, but it could have been so much worse.

Germany could have ended the first half 5-0 in front, but Northern Ireland held on, thanks in large part to the performance of goalkeeper Michael McGovern, who made seven magnificent saves throughout the match.

The result sees Germany top Group C, while Northern Ireland's ability to keep the score down means they are very much still alive in this competition.

Turkey Smash Czechs Out Of Euro 2016, But It May Be Too Little, Too Late

The Czech Republic vs. Turkey kicked off with both teams needing to win in order to give themselves a chance to progress.

An opening goal from Burak Yilmaz, followed by a rocket from Ozan Tufan gave Turkey a 2-0 victory, knocking the Czechs out of the competition.

Despite the win, it may not be enough for Turkey to progress, as they sit third with three points and a goal differential of negative two.
