SAO PAULO - The new president of Brazilian club Palmeiras appealed to fans to stop sending money to her personal bank account on Thursday, a day after the details were revealed at her inauguration ceremony.

Leila Pereira, who was last month elected Palmeiras’ first female president, was surprised when her social security number and home address were read out at Wednesday’s event.

A few hours later, Pereira said supporters were sending her money to buy a new striker, using a popular direct transfer application called PIX.

Santos defeated Red Bull Bragantino 2-0 in Brazil’s top flight on Wednesday for an upset victory. Santos scored its second goal in the final minute of the game from the penalty spot. The call for the penalty came after an immaculate Marinho flop.

Brazilian soccer star Hulk has certainly made some interesting decisions in his career, on and off the field. Leaving Europe to play five seasons in China and marrying his niece are prime examples. One thing the 35-year-old is clearly doing right is leg day at the gym.

Hulk plays with Atlético Mineiro in Brazil and went semi-viral Wednesday night for being the owner of the largest gluteus maximus in all of soccer. Atlético’s kit helped a little bit, but all credit to Hulk for never skipping leg day a single time in his life.

Vasco da Gama is one of Brazil’s biggest clubs despite being relegated to Brasileirao Serie B last season. On Sunday, the club hosted Brusque in a league game and was all decked out for LGBTQ+ Pride. The corner flags were swapped to the rainbow flags and the home team sported some of the cleanest Pride kits I’ve ever seen.

On the surface, the rivalry between Sheffield United and West Ham United seems to be one of the most obvious derbies in English football; Sheffield is nicknamed the Blades because of the city's connection to the steel industry, while West Ham is known as the Hammers for its roots in the local ironworks of London. 

But the rivalry between these two clubs extends beyond the metalworks and is centered around another important resource: money.
