Watching Real Madrid Players Play FIFA 16 As Themselves Is Surreal

We’re just a few days into 2016, but what better way to ring in the New Year than by watching this video as a few Real Madrid players kick back and play against each other in FIFA 16?

If you’ve played FIFA 16, or any version of EA’s popular soccer franchise, you should know that there’s no love lost when it comes to playing amongst friends. Take it from someone who lost countless hours in college, where my apartment complex seemed to be the epicenter of FIFA tournaments for friends and fraternity brothers (there was a point when yours truly was unbeaten for a couple of months...but I digress.)

Just as it was on Elm Street for myself and countless friends, the excitement and desire to win amongst these Madrid teammates is relentless. The only difference between us and them is they’re being watched by hundreds of thousands on the interwebs.

As the video suggests, it’s winner-take-all between the two teams, which pit Varane, Jese Rodriguez, Nacho and Carvajal against Denis Cheryshev, Danilo, Casemiro and Keylor Navas in a four-on-four situation.

In the most unsurprising of plot twists, both sets of players elect to play as, wait for it, Real Madrid.

In another unsurprising turn of events, both teams seem to be confused at the beginning of the match as to who is who. Hopefully they’ve never had that problem in real life.

After an action-packed match with lots of good (and bad) play, the white squad and the selfie-stick wielding Carvajal are able to come away with a 2-1 victory and take home the coveted trophy.

Maybe next time Ronaldo or Gareth Bale will participate, or maybe even new head coach Zinedine Zidane
