Gregor Kobel’s epic whiff is a perfect summary of Dortmund’s nightmare Der Klassiker performance

New Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel couldn’t have asked for a better start to his new gig as Bayern obliterated Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Der Klassiker on Saturday. A horrendous Gregor Kobel fail set the tone of the game in the 13th minute.

The massive error and whiff from the Dortmund keeper seemed to have deflated his side. Dayot Upamecano sent a long ball looking for the run of Leroy Sané when Kobel came out of his box attempting to clear it.

Kobel's attempted clearance turned into a disaster.

Gregor Kobel fail vs. Bayern Munich

Unfortunately for Upamecano the goal was awarded as a Kobel own goal. Sané had even been nice enough not to tap it in and steal the moment. What a shame.

Bayern took advantage of the momentum and Thomas Müller secured a brace in the span of five minutes with goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes, respectively.

This was Müller’s 25th Bundesliga brace.

Kingsley Coman added a fourth goal for Bayern in the 50th minute to end any ideas of a Dortmund comeback.

The visitors were outmatched in every area of the field. Dortmund scored two goals late to make the scoreline look a little more respectable, but it doesn’t stop Bayern from going top of the Bundesliga table with a two-point lead.

Bayern had a litany of chances in the second half that the team failed to convert or were offside for. The score could have been much uglier.

Poor Kobel will definitely be losing some sleep over Saturday’s error.
