A Familiar American Voice Is Set To Rejoin NBC's Premier League Coverage

Former Premier League goalkeeper and USMNT great Tim Howard is dusting off his old analyst skills as he is set to rejoin NBC’s Premier League coverage for the 2020-21 season.

NBC made the announcement on Tuesday that Howard will be back in the studio ranks.

The former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper worked with the network for three years. NBC got the rights to the league in 2013.

Howard has been working with USL Championship club Memphis 901 as a minority owner, sporting director and goalkeeper. He expressed his excitement to be back in the NBC studio on Twitter.

With the USL Championship and Premier League overlapping, this probably spells the end of Howard’s playing career. He played with the Colorado Rapids from 2016-19 and announced his retirement from the sport last October. His hiatus only lasted five months when he returned with Memphis 901 in March.

NBC’s Broadcast Center is in Stamford, Connecticut, making it unlikely that he could split time as an analyst and goalkeeper in Memphis, Tennessee. Howard made four appearances in goal for Memphis.

Howard fills the place of Kyle Martino in the NBC Studio. Martino announced his departure after covering seven seasons. Rebecca Lowe, Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe will work alongside Howard.

It must be exciting for Howard, a former TNT studio analyst for the Champions League, to rejoin a slightly more competent network. You know, a show that doesn’t have former basketball players analyzing soccer and won’t use the wrong feed during the most important match of the year.
