Born on November 2nd, 2012 in Barcelona, Thiago Messi’s imminent arrival was first announced by his father during a match between Argentina and Ecuador. Messi scored a goal and celebrated by placing the ball under his shirt, later confirming that his partner, Antonella Roccuzzo, was pregnant with their first child.
Lionel also wrote the following message to his supporters on Facebook: “Today, I am the happiest man in the world, my son was born and thanks to God for this gift!”
Having been born in Barcelona, Messi’s Argentina teammates were quick to shower the child with La Albiceleste gear. Lionel also has Thiago’s name and handprints tattooed on his left calf.
When Thiago was younger, Lionel admitted that his son didn’t have much interest in football.
“I don’t buy him many balls or force him to play with them because he doesn’t like them that much,” said Lionel. However, Thiago has since been enrolled at the FC Barcelona School and could join the academy in a few years. The youngest squad at La Masia is the Prebenjamin, which features players aged 6-7.
“Let’s see if he gets hooked that way — it would be a good start,” said Lionel.
Thiago isn’t the only famous son at FCB Escola, as the sons of Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique are also enrolled there.
