Oh, to be German. The land of a healthy economy, delicious beer, and, of course, the World Cup Champions. It’s good to be in German soccer right now. If you are a young German, fans of top flight clubs across Europe melt at the prospect of having you on their team. If you are a veteran, people call you things like Fußballgott (which literaly means Football God). If you are a coach, you are highly respected, and more than likely highly paid. If you are German league champion, well, you get the best championship celebration ever.
During all the pomp and circumstance of the trophy ceremony you are showered with confetti as an announcer begs the crowd to roar your name, which they are only too happy to do.
Then a bunch of gorgeous women in adorable outfits hand you what seems to be close to their bodyweight in beer and expensive looking glass. In no other league that we know of do players receive gallons of beer on the field. Most leagues wait to party. Not the German Bundesliga. This particular picture is from when Bayern Munich won the league back in 2012/13: the same year they won the treble.
Bayern has a habit of showering each other with said beer, which makes sense. They probably have to cool themselves down after being in the presence of arguably the most epic looking trophy of all time. If the beer and women don’t make a case for the best championship celebration ever, the trophy does.
Check out a more hi-res picture of the trophy here. Trust me, you need to check it out in hi-res.
It appears however, that Bayern’s beer showers weren’t enough to keep star goal keeper Manuel Neuer from dowsing one of the girls with liquid gold.
Simmer down now, Manuel. We know you are f***ing hyped but there’s no need to be a dick.
Germany may be riding high right now, but who’s to say what things will be like years down the road? The debate of who has the best players, teams, or coaches is never ending. But this celebration will be there until the end of time. It’s embedded in their culture. So, while I may change my mind about whether or not I’d want a German player on my team, I can confidently say that, from now until I die, I’d want a German celebration for my victories.
