Stevie G's Debut And A Robbie Keane Wonder Goal

The first match of the International Champions Cup has concluded with the LA Galaxy walking away with a 2-1 victory over Club America. Not only was it the first match of the tournament, it was the first appearance for Steven Gerrard at his new Californian club. Seeing him outside of Anfield in a white, blue and yellow shirt was a little hard on the eye and will take more than forty-five minutes to become accustomed to.

For his first touches on the ball in a new country, Gerrard managed to produce many long balls that connected with teammates. Even his shot on goal during the first half should have gone past Club America keeper Hugo Gonzalez had he not been well positioned in front of Gerrard.

Despite Gerrard not scoring on his debut, he still played the architect in midfield that is reflective of his time in Liverpool. His British Isle compatriot, Robbie Keane, did manage to equalize for the Galaxy with a goal that will have you watching it over and over again.

The initial touch by Keane from Juninho would have Zidane’s jaw drop to the floor. No words can describe the grace Keane displayed to bring the ball down and slot it past the defender and keeper who were right in front of him. Be humble all you want, but Keane knew exactly how incredible his goal was and the fist-pump afterwards said it all.

There is plenty more International Champions Cup action to watch before regular league play starts again.
