Raul Jimenez Completes Move To Benfica

Raul Jimenez left Club America for Spain not too long ago. Back then, the former Aguilas ace was developing into the next America legend, appearing 96 times for America and scoring 36 goals.

Not only was he being influential with America but he was proving to be influential with Mexico as well, participating in the team that won Olympic gold in 2012. Back then, his career was soaring and so when he signed for Diego Simeone, many believed that he would have a shot at shining for Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

But his star slowly started dimming last season. It’s been a year since the 24-year-old signed with Atletico and he now has a new challenge in front of him. It’s been confirmed that Jimenez has joined Benfica for the 2015-2016 season, signing a five-year contract with the Portuguese side. He looks to be ready for a new challenge and is optimistic that he’ll be getting more minutes at Benfica. "I didn't play as much as I expected to [at Atletico], but I believe in my own ability and I want to prove I can help this team. I know very well that it won't be easy, but I'm at a great club and surrounded by high-quality teammates."

Jimenez failed to make a make a mark in La Liga, last season. Only featuring 21 times in all competitions for Los Rojiblancos, scoring 1 solitary goal for them. He failed to earn Simeone’s trust, even though the coach proved patient with him. On a positive note, Jimenez is only 24 and still has time to develop. He will be a star for Mexico in the future. Right now he’ll have to make the best out of a new venture with the Primeira club. Benfica will most likely give him more playing time and Jimenez will have to make the most out of the opportunity.
