If Lionel Messi was trying to make a political statement when he announced his retirement from the Argentina National Team, he got the attention of the man in whose direction such things are usually pointed: Argentina President Mauricio Macri.
Macri tweeted yesterday that he hopes the to watch La Pulga play for La Albiceleste "for years to come."
Más q nunca siento un gran orgullo x nuestra selección. Espero q la alegría de ver al mejor del mundo continúe muchos años más.#NoTeVayasLio

It's interesting how much the people of Argentina criticized Messi for not winning trophies, but now that he might leave they're suddenly his biggest supporters. The government of Buenos Aires even gave him a statue to try and convince him to not retire from the national team.
Mauricio Macri better fix some things with the AFA if he wants that to happen.
