Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a rare combination of ability and speed, and now it seems he may bring this combination to Real Madrid. In a recent interview with beIN Sports, we learn Aubameyang promised his grandfather that he would play for Los Blancos one day.
"Real Madrid? There is no agreement but I promised my grandfather I would play there one day. Why wouldn't I want to discover new things? As I've said several times, I'd like to play in Spain and have good weather for once in my life!"
This would just be a pipe dream for most players, but Aubameyang truly is one of the few footballers alive that has a real chance to line up at striker for Real Madrid.
Aubameyang is arguably the fastest striker in the world. He recorded a 30 meter dash time of 3.7 seconds back in 2013 just after he signed for his current club Borussia Dortmund. That’s almost a second faster than Usain Bolt’s 30 meter split during his world-record-breaking run in Berlin in 2009.
This season his goal tally has kept up with his incredible pace. For part of the year Aubameyang was the leading scorer in all of Europe, out-pacing Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neymar and the like. He now sits at 33 goals in 39 games across all competitions, most of which you can see here:
Aubameyang’s play has reached such a high level this season that he recently joked to French magazine L’Equipe that he sometimes pauses and thinks to himself, “f***, I’m really good.”
That confidence will help should what Aubamayeng promised his grandfather come true. Real Madrid is one of the toughest clubs in the world to play for. The pressure to perform is immense, and there is little patience for failure. But with a little luck and a lot of hard work, in a couple of years Aubameyang could be making the entire Bernabeu think, “f***, he’s really good” too.
