Everyone knows who Usain Bolt is. The Jamaican sprinter is only the fastest man in the world, last demonstrating his superhuman speed at the 2015 Beijing World Championships. Many fans know him by his nickname, Lightning Bolt, and many in the soccer universe know Bolt for having been stuck in perpetual limbo over a first-team trial with Manchester United for some time now.
Well that man has made his allegiance known for the USA vs Mexico match Saturday. Soccer world prepare yourself: Bolt is siding with Jamaica rivals, El Tri, in the match against the United States on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has sided with El Tri and believes Mexico has what it takes to get a win over their archrivals. No “Dos a Cero” this time around, according to Bolt. The Olympic legend hopes to see El Tri represent CONCACAF at the Confederation Cup in Russia in 2018.
“Jamaica and the United States have a great rivalry in any sport, so I will definitely be rooting for Mexico because I am Jamaican and I don’t want the United States to win,” Bolt said while in Mexico recently.
He also praised Mexico for their love of the game, while at the same time alluding to one of his favorite vacation spots.
“I know that they [Mexicans] love soccer, I’ve heard of Cancun, it’s a really fun place, loves the sport, you all love the sport and for me, that's really important, I would say give it all you got, work hard, believe in yourselves, and never give up” Bolt said.
For El Tri fans, it’s great to hear one of the greats of the olympics is on their side. Usain is a legend and his words will definitely motivate El Tri players in their tough match against the United States. Don’t miss that match tomorrow!
