Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been named the 2017 African Player of the Year by the BBC. Salah, who arrived on Merseyside this summer from Roma, is Liverpool's most expensive signing ever and also probably the buy of the summer.

The other finalists for the award were Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Victor Moses, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita. Mane, who runs the other wing for Liverpool, finished second. Keita, who is set to join Mane and Salah at Liverpool this summer and will replace Salah as Liverpool's most expensive player ever, finished fifth.
Salah has 19 goals for Liverpool this season, equalling his total from last season in Italy. He's also currently leading the Premier League in goals. It is only December. Mohamed Salah is really good.
Salah has played no small part in Liverpool's advancement to the Champions League knockout stage. If Salah can keep up his fantastic form, the Egyptian will naturally have his sights set even higher than African Player of the Year. Ballon d'Or next?
