What a weekend MLS had. Just about anything that could happen did happen. Here's a breakdown:
Record for goals in a day:
MLS broke its record for goals in a day with a 39-goal outburst across eight games on Saturday. The highlight was a 10-goal thriller between D.C. United and Real Salt Lake. Pay special attention to Taylor Kemp's volley and Nick DeLeon's shot to clinch it for D.C.
Cyle Larin's big year:
Orlando City's Canadian forward tied the record for most goals in a rookie season with a brace in Orlando's 5-2 win over Columbus. Larin now has 11 goals on the year with a few months to go.
Frank Lampard's debut:
The Chelsea legend made his first appearance for New York City FC, but it wasn't enough to spur New York past Montreal, who won 3-2.
Jozy sees red:
Jozy Altidore was sent off early in Toronto's 3-1 loss to New England for kicking Jose Goncalves, making a bad summer even worse for himself.
The Wright-Phillips connection:
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his ninth goal of the season, and was assisted by his brother Shaun.
Fans welcome superstars:
Didier Drogba and Gio dos Santos arrived at Montreal and Los Angeles, respectively, and were greeted with much fanfare.
