Mexico Could Celebrate Its World Cup Success In The U.S. This Fall

USMNT fans are in for a long summer, but they can at least look forward to an exciting slate of matches this fall. The USMNT Mexico friendly will reportedly take place during the September international break somewhere on U.S. soil.

If it's anything like most "home" matches for the USMNT against El Tri, expect green jerseys to outnumber those in red, white and blue.

Juan Carlos Osorio and his Mexico team could arrive stateside in September on a belated World Cup celebration tour. However, if Mexico fails to advance from a difficult Group F or break its streak of six consecutive Round of 16 exits, it's likely El Tri will be playing under a new manager.

The USMNT will certainly have someone new at the helm to replace interim manager Dave Sarachan by the time the USMNT Mexico friendly rolls around. For now, though, Sarachan is expected to coach the national team in its May friendly against Bolivia, with Christian Pulisic slated to make his first USMNT appearance since the shock defeat in Trinidad.

El Tri has played more than four times as many friendlies in the US than it has in Mexico since 2008. Attendance for Mexico friendlies is often at least double what the USMNT team normally draws. When the two teams face off in the U.S., the fan atmosphere more closely resembles that of a hotly contested neutral site rather than one with a significant home field advantage.

The USMNT is also finalizing plans to host Brazil in September before traveling to Europe for friendlies against Italy and England in November.
