Luis Suarez Has The Second-Worst Game Of His World Cup Career

No player appeared more devastated by Jose Gimenez’s 89th minute winner for Uruguay than Mohamed Salah on the Egypt bench; no player could’ve been more elated than Luis Suarez. The Barcelona striker had a nightmare match for La Celeste, spurning three glorious chances while also getting globally ridiculed for an atrocious dive/feigned injury combo.

Here’s the worst of the misses, going down in the 24th minute. Watch as Suarez wheels away to celebrate his opening goal, only to realize that he spooned his shot wide from a few yards out.

Having f’d up two chances, Suarez’s third miscue was the visual representation of a man with absolutely zero confidence in his ability to strike a ball — he simply refused to take a shot despite being played clean through on goal by strike partner Edinson Cavani (who looked pretty sharp on the day, forcing Egypt’s keeper into a great save and striking the post on a free kick).

And then, second half stoppage time turned into an absolute spectacle because of Uruguay’s No. 9. Look at him go, not once but twice.

What a time to be alive.
