Lori Chalupny Retiring From International Soccer

U.S. Soccer announced Monday that midfielder Lori Chalupny will retire at the end of the USWNT's 10-game World Cup Victory Tour.

“It’s been an amazing year,” said Chalupny in the announcement. “Winning a World Cup is any soccer player’s biggest dream and I feel very fortunate to have had these experiences. That said, there is no better way to go out than as a world champion and this just seemed like the right time to put a cap on my international career. It’s been an emotional journey back to the National Team, and I’m really thankful to U.S. Soccer, to Jill, to the staff and to my teammates for making this year such a memorable one.”

Chalupny saw time in the USWNT's round of 16 victory over Colombia. Though she was unable to play for the USWNT from 2009-2014 due to concussions, she managed to appear more than 100 times for the U.S.

“I have so many great memories from my career and all the teams I’ve played with and the teammates I’ve been fortunate enough to play alongside,” said Chalupny in the announcement. “Now, I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life. I know I will still be heavily involved in the game and look forward to sharing my passion with young players in whatever environment I find myself in.”

Chalupny joins Shannon Boxx and Lauren Holiday as notable USWNT retirees following the World Cup.
