A Look Back At Past Arsenal vs. Aston Villa

On the cusp of the FA Cup final, the suspense builds even more as Arsenal and Aston Villa prepare to kick off at Wembley stadium. Arsenal are looking to secure a win for the second year in a row after beating Hull City last season.

The Gunners remain tied with Manchester United for most amount of wins (11) at the final, but should they lose, Aston Villa will move up to eight wins which puts them at third and on par with Tottenham. Villa’s last win came over fifty years ago in 1957 when they defeated Manchester United 2-1.

The blatant tackle on the United keeper by Peter McParland early in the first half did not end in a foul, nor a penalty! A very different style of play in previous decades of football.

Arsenal look the stronger side going into the final, but with the new appointment of Tim Sherwood to Villa, their hopes of winning an upset are even better. Their impressive performance against Manchester City during the league encompasses the rejuvenation of football at Villa Park.

Arsenal and Aston Villa previously met during the FA Cup 4th round in 2012. The Gunners finished on top with a 3-2 victory over Villa in a spectacular match.

Wenger ended his drought of trophies at Arsenal last year by beating Hull City and he looks to continue his success once again this Saturday. The match kicks off at 10:30am MST at Wembley Stadium.
