John O’Shea Announces Retirement — Yes, He’s Still Playing

Longtime Manchester United defender John O’Shea announced his retirement on his 37th birthday Tuesday.

Believe it or not, O’Shea has been playing continuously since his departure from Manchester United in 2011.

O’Shea spent 12 years with United and was part of five Premier League championship teams as well as one Champions League-winning team.

The defenseman also notched one team MVP back in 2002.

The Irish footballer has since long been out of the limelight since taking his talents to Sunderland in 2011.

Former United manager Steve Bruce was a major factor for the move luring O’Shea to Sunderland for what would be Bruce’s final season.

He eventually would face his first relegation with the team and a similar fate when making the move to Reading.

O’Shea scored 15 goals over his career with English clubs as well as three for his native Ireland.

O’Shea could’ve called it quits years ago and would still have had an incredible career as far as length and accolades.

John O’Shea, congratulations on a hell of a career.
