Huddersfield Town Retain Invincibles Status For Another Week

With a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United, Huddersfield Town rose to second place in the Premier League table, sitting behind Manchester United on goal difference alone. We’re only two weeks into the season, but the Terriers are off to an almighty flyer in the top division.

German-American coach David Wagner and his squad are Invincibles.

This week’s result isn’t as eye-catching as their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, but Huddersfield looked exceptionally more qualified for life in the Premier League than fellow newcomers Newcastle.

With Jonjo Shelvey serving the first of his three-game suspension, Newcastle’s midfield was bereft of quality and the forward duo of Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez spent the better part of an hour doing absolutely nothing.

The match’s one moment of real quality was provided by Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy. A cleverly disguised pass to Elias Kachunga was returned near the top of the box. Mooy took a touch and dispatched a curling effort into the far corner.

Up next for Newcastle is Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. Their next EPL fixture is against winless West Ham. That match will reek of desperation.

Huddersfield play Rotherham in the Cup and then host Southampton with their top-of-the-table status on the line.
