How Playing With Barcelona Changed Luis Suarez’s Life

Barcelona forward Luis Suárez surprised the world with statements he made to the European TV network Helden TV, in which he said he did not feel qualified to play for the Catalan club.

The Uruguayan is currently one of the figureheads of the FC Barcelona team. He is La Liga’s top scorer with 35 goals and joint top assistant with 14 assists, tied with his teammate Lionel Messi.

If he does top the scoring charts at the end of the season he would be the third Uruguayan, after Jorge Da Silva and Diego Forlan, to win the Pichichi, as is called the trophy for the best scorer in Spain.

Suarez has totaled 79 goals in 93 games for Barcelona across all competitions in two campaigns so far.

Despite his great numbers, he confessed that “even I didn't believe I was good enough to be Barca's number nine.”

The 29-year-old also said that he values his teammates and is very happy to have some of the best in the world

Suarez came to the Camp Nou from Liverpool in the summer of 2014, where he spent four seasons after playing in Netherlands, with Ajax and Groningen, and with Nacional de Montevideo in his hometown in Uruguay.

Nowadays Suárez enjoys his life in Barcelona and talks about his relationship with the other stars of the team. "It is a privilege to watch them train."

“We are all happy, no jealousies with Neymar and Lionel Messi, everything is natural. This creates a good atmosphere in the team," he said.

Suarez says that another reason to feel happy at Barcelona is the absence of long working hours at the discretion of Luis Enrique, allowing he and the players to enjoy more family time.

"When [we are the visiting team], we travel the same morning. When we play at home we have to be in the stadium just an hour and a half before [the game starts]," he said.

The Uruguayan admits he would love to stay and live in Barcelona for all the good it brings him. "I like Barcelona because I have a special appreciation since I started with my wife Sofia. She came to live here and I came to see her. Now we can be together here, it is our home ".

Luis Suarez admits that he needed the help of a specialist to rectify some of the mistakes made during his life. "Everyone knows I've talked to a psychologist who has helped me a lot, not only in my behavior in the pitch".

After his famous suspensions, Suarez focuses his playing style differently, with less pressure. The successful forward often blamed himself when his team lost. Today, he is more relaxed and happier than in past years, and seems likely to win his second title in La Liga. Now, Suarez only shows his teeth to smile.
