We Don’t Care They Lost 9-1, Glasgow City’s Champions League Goal Was A Beauty

Scotland’s Glasgow City, the only part-time club left in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, was always going to have a tough time contending with European powerhouse Wolfsburg in the quarterfinals on Friday. The final score was neither surprising nor flattering.

But of the 10 goals scored at the Reale Arena on Friday afternoon, Glasgow City’s lone strike was the finest of the lot.

Pernille Harder scored four goals and Ingrid Engen added two as Wolfsburg ruthlessly cruised to an 9-1 win over Glasgow City to advance to a semifinal showdown with Barcelona.

While the defeat ended City’s season in ignominious fashion, there were a few moments of joy for the Scottish side.

In the 63rd minute, Lauren Wade gave Glasgow something to cheer about with a marvelous goal against the run of play, somehow scoring from a wide angle outside the 18.

Admittedly there weren’t too many chances to celebrate for City supporters, though the underdogs did create a few chances here and there.

Before the match, The18 caught up with Krystyna Freda, an American who finished second in scoring in the Women’s Champions League, only trailing Harder. While the result wasn’t what she — or any of her two American teammates — would’ve liked, they can at least take solace in the fact they weren’t shut out.

Here are the rest of the Glasgow City vs Wolfsburg highlights from their Champions League quarterfinal, by which we mean all of the Wolfsburg goals.
