The controversy surrounding Mason Greenwood has a new chapter as it was announced on Friday that Manchester United will loan him to LaLiga club Getafe for the 2023-24 season.
Greenwood, who turns 22 next month, was suspended by United in January 2022 and was charged with attempted rape and assault in October. He was suspended after accusations and disturbing evidence was posted on social media.
The charges were dropped in February 2023 due to “the withdrawal of key witnesses” and left United in a situation. Do they drop Greenwood even though he faces no charges? Or do they keep him and face the backlash?
In the end they went for the middle road and loaned him while still paying most of his salary.

The Spanish club coincidentally made an English Twitter account just two days before announcing Greenwood. It appears they were ready for the influx of English followers.
The online soccer community came in droves to voice their displeasure with the LaLiga club on both the Spanish and English accounts.

Karma decided to get involved on Saturday following the signing. Getafe were moments away from a massive 1-1 draw vs. Real Madrid until Jude Bellingham scored in the 95th minute to take all the points.

Greenwood wasn’t in the squad for Saturday’s game.
Last season Getafe finished two points clear of the relegation zone. Many online have voiced their hopes that the club suffers the drop this season.
