Werder Bremen may sit at the bottom of the table in the German Bundesliga, but they soar high in the hearts of their fans.
The club started the day a point behind Frankfurt and set for relegation from the Bundesliga into the second division of the German football league system. That is, until their fans intervened:
In case you were wondering, that's what it looks like when fans rally behind a team and simply won't let them fail. We get chills just watching the video. It's like they are fighting for the championship versus avoiding relegation.
Anyone who is a sports fan – and who has a team of their own they cheer on through thick and thin – recognizes this moment. It's the moment when the chips are down, time is about to run out, and yet somehow the spirit of the crowd lifts the team and transforms the momentum. How could Werder Bremen lose with fans like this?
It took some time for the club to reward the fans' devotion, but in the 88' Chelsea loanee Papy Djilobodji scored off a free kick to give Werder a 1-0 lead over Eintracht Frankfurt. It was a lead that Werder never relinquished.
The #GreenWhiteWonderwall cheering section was understandably pleased, as were the players.

On the other side of the coin, Frankfurt's loss means they enter a playoff with second-division club Nurnberg to decide whether they stay or go from the Bundesliga top flight.
