Frank Lampard was unstoppable for New York City FC throughout July, registering six goals, one assist and one MLS Player of the Month award.
It was only last May that Lampard was being booed by his own supporters, but he’s transformed into the toast of New York after leading his team to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Lampard had just recently been named the MLS Player of the Week after scoring the first hat trick in NYCFC history against the Colorado Rapids. Now, he's added the MLS Player of the Month to his extensive award collection.
The man who’s been capped 106 times for England has gone from zero to hero over the month of August, becoming a constant presence in New York’s midfield after struggling with injuries and fitness at the beginning of 2016.
Both Lampard and NYCFC are enjoying their greatest moment in MLS — Patrick Viera appears to have finally found a winning formula for the club, and, barring a monumental collapse, they appear to be headed for their first postseason appearance.
